Wow, what a rollercoaster of emotions this week has been! I can hardly believe that my husband’s Green Card application has been approved! It’s like a dream come true, and we can finally start planning our new life in America.
And guess what? The visa arrived as an early birthday gift, just the day before my special day. I was over the moon, and happy tears were flowing freely. We’ve been working on these plans for almost two years now, and having that visa in hand made everything feel so real.
Now, the excitement begins as we start making concrete arrangements. Flights, movers, finding a place to rent – we’re basically starting from scratch. It’s like being 18 again but with a lot more life experience (and, unfortunately, not the same youthful body). My husband doesn’t have any credit history in the US, but I’ve been building mine up over the past year, so that’s a small win.
Oh, and here’s the kicker – I have to retake my driver’s test!
I must admit, that caught me by surprise, but it’s just one more step on this incredible journey.
We hadn’t fully considered the challenge of picking the perfect place to live. We need to find a rental in the same school district where we would eventually like to buy a home.
Our main concern is our son, who has Asperger syndrome. We planned this move around him starting middle school with his peers. Being advanced for his age, he’ll begin school in September, giving him some time to adjust to life in the US. It’s important to us that he doesn’t have to face the added stress of being the new kid twice. We want to give him stability and support during this transition, as change can be tough for anyone on the spectrum.
You might remember from my “Going Home” post that my son’s well-being is at the top of our priority list. So, we’re taking things one step at a time and carefully considering all the options.
On a lighter note, I received another fantastic birthday gift – my blog, Erren’s Kitchen, reached close to a million page views last month! 945,687 to be precise. It’s incredible to see how far this little blog has come. I’ve poured my heart and soul into it, and I’m beyond proud of its growth.
I couldn’t have done any of this without all of you, my wonderful readers and supporters. Your love and engagement have fueled my passion, and I’m grateful beyond words. With your encouragement, I know that our new life in the States will be the beginning of an exciting journey as a company and a brand. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Our adventure has just begun!
